Extended family session in Sun Prairie
I can't believe I forgot to blog this session from Memorial Day weekend. This was a VERY important shoot as it was done because one brave guy was leaving his family again for his 3rd deployment the day after the session. All of the family were getting together for his daughter's birthday party and it worked out perfectly to do an extended family session after the party. We had to work with 3pm afternoon lighting, but a local park in Sun Prairie provided enough shade for us! (We had threats of rain and I'm so thankful that didn't happen!). It was so much fun getting to know this family and letting me capture them.

Sweet {C}'s 6 month milestone session - Sun Prairie baby photographer
I know I've said this before, but I absolutely love that my job allows me to get to know families and see little ones grow up. Miss {C} has changed so much since her newborn session but still just as sweet. I was thrilled that her momma brought her over to my in-home studio in Sun Prairie to capture her at 6 months (my favorite age!). We got to play dress up with her a bit (though she wasn't a fan of getting changed) and she looked so adorable in everything!

As a family and child photographer, I'm always looking for new locations and areas to do sessions. I have a good 4-5 that are my staples, but always keep my eyes open for new places. I had one location in mind that I had checked out last year, but never shot there. I had recently done a session with my girls so they were NOT going to allow me to shoot them again, haha (I always like to try a new location first before using it with a client). Thankfully my sister and niece were coming over and the weather was going to be perfect for a little mini shoot. I talked them both into coming with me (and Brianna (my oldest) as her and her cousin are glued at the hip when they get together; and ice cream may have been mentioned for after the shoot!) So I found a dress I had in Elli's size, let her pick out a headband or halo (they all choose halo's now, hehe) and we headed out for golden hour. The location was great, but with all the rain we had in the last week, we couldn't go to the other areas I was hoping to check out. And there were also a bunch of pesky flies! It was so weird, we were bothered by flying, buzzing buggers, but none of us really got bit by any mosquitoes. I think they were more flies then mosquitoes (we noticed this in my backyard that night too when we were eating dinner). Anyway, what do you think of this location? This is mostly just one area as Elli didn't last long, but I'm digging the yummy light!

Extended family session in Sun Prairie - WI family photographer
Extended family sessions are so special because it's a time to capture the WHOLE family, something that rarely happens. It's even more important when some family members are coming from halfway across the U.S. We had ONE night to do this shoot and it was calling for rain all week. I was so nervous and we were trying to think of alternatives if we couldn't do a golden hour session at the park. THANKFULLY, the rain held off and we could do the session as planned. We were able to get multiple variations in and this family was so fun and relaxed, even with the rain scare. Sharing a lot, because I can't help it!

I am so happy when previous clients come back for more photos (even if it's been awhile). I did big brother's 6 month photos years ago and it was fun meeting little brother and doing some family photos. I love having families play around and capturing them as a family. We lucked out with beautiful weather (before the sting of storms in the Madison area came) and before the mosquitos got too bad!
